10:00am Ben Strugnell Post Mortem Demonstration

Demonstration of Disease Diagnosis and Possible Mitigation

This sessions will explore the pathology behind common causes of sheep losses, highlighting how diseases develop and strategies to reduce their impact. Covering both infectious and non-infectious conditions, the demonstrations will provide practical insights into disease surveillance, post-mortem diagnostics, and flock health management.

11:15am Haemonchus Workshop

Is Haemonchus a Real Threat in the North of England?

Speakers: Alasdair Nisbet and Dave Bartley, Moredun Research Institute and Nerys Wright, SCOPS

Haemonchus seems to be a frequent topic of discussion currently. In this seminar, we will address the fact that Haemonchus diagnosis seems to be increasing in some regions of the UK. We will discuss what Haemonchus is, how it differs from other roundworms, how to identify it, and the available treatment options.

12 Noon Roundworm Workshop

Efficiently Manage Worm Egg Count Reports with the FEC Check App

Speakers: Fiona Kenyon and Lynsey Melville, Moredun Research Institute

An interactive look at roundworm species and anthelmintic resistance. How the Moredun’s recently developed, award winning, FEC Check App could help you ensure best practice roundworm control to optimise flock performance.

12:45pm Liver Fluke Workshop

Liver Fluke Control in Sheep - Getting ahead of a rapidly adapting parasite.

Speakers: Philip Skuce, Moredun Research Institute and Nerys Wright, SCOPS

Liver fluke is changing with the weather and climate. Administering a dose on a set date in the calendar is no longer proving effective. We will discuss how to determine your farm's fluke risk and the various testing options, including a new lateral flow test. Additionally, we will provide a reminder on which stage of the liver fluke lifecycle the different chemicals are effective against.

1:30pm Breeding for Health and Welfare

Future Breeding Goals – Health, welfare and the environment

Speakers: Samuel Boon, Signet Breeding Services

Early breeding programmes focused on the easy wins, improving lamb growth rates and enhancing carcase attributes. Over the last 25 years Signet Breeding Services has developed a wide range of new and informative breeding values that allow ram breeders and their clients to be far more ambitious; lifting flock efficiency, improving health and welfare and breeding sheep with a lower carbon footprint.

In this session we will hear how ram breeders are embracing new technologies including the use of genomics to breed the sheep we will need in the years to come.

2:15pm Ben Strugnell Post Mortem Demonstration

This sessions will explore the pathology behind common causes of sheep losses, highlighting how diseases develop and strategies to reduce their impact. Covering both infectious and non-infectious conditions, the demonstrations will provide practical insights into disease surveillance, post-mortem diagnostics, and flock health management.
